Casino Waldo, part of the Waldo Hotel, was Galaxy Entertainment Group's first foray into Macau's gambling scene, opening in 2003 in a converted warehouse. It quickly became known as the island's first boutique hotel casino, despite its plain exterior. The casino operated on four floors (ground, 1st, 3rd, and 5th) with a total of 35 gaming tables, 32 of which were dedicated to baccarat. There were no slot machines on the premises. Stakes increased with floor height, reaching up to $10,000 on the 5th floor, catering to different levels of players.
For visitors, Casino Waldo was open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, located on the eastern side of the Amizade Strip near the Outer Harbour. Its convenient location made it accessible to both tourists and locals. However, as of October 31, 2024, the casino has permanently ceased all gaming operations. The Waldo Hotel, on the other hand, continues to operate its non-gaming hospitality services, offering accommodation and other amenities. This shift marks a significant change for the venue, which had been a part of Macau's vibrant casino landscape for over two decades.
In the context of the broader Macao gambling scene, Casino Waldo represented an early milestone as Galaxy Entertainment's first property. Its closure reflects the evolving dynamics of the market, where older, smaller casinos are making way for larger integrated resorts. Despite its modest size and lack of slot machines, Casino Waldo carved out a niche as a boutique gaming destination, appealing to those who preferred a more intimate setting. Today, the Waldo Hotel stands as a reminder of that era, while the casino itself is now part of Macau's gaming history.
